Yoga Classes
Spirituality is more than an activity of the soul or mind alone. It also involves the way we treat our bodies. At St. James we encourage our members to take care of their bodies as a way of honoring the image of God in each of us. We also encourage the fellowship that small groups permit (like yoga class, choir, knitting groups and such). We offer a yoga class as a way to encourage meditation and to honor our bodies.
Our
yoga teacher, David Wallin, has been teaching in Chicago since 1995. His
webpage identifying his teachers and his influences is
here. He
structures the class for all levels of fitness with beginners welcome. The class relaxes, strengthens and soothes the body and mind. The focus is on increasing flexibility, balance
and strength and on reducing stress through various hatha yoga postures and breathing.
Classes usually include some Yin Yoga.
Classes are $12 each or five classes for $55. They begin at 9:30 am on Saturday mornings and run for about one hour. Wear loose fitting clothing and bring your own mat and towel.
